Description
Description | The project consists of the first phase of the expansion of the Town of Wolfville’s wastewater treatment facility. The scope of the work involves upgrading equipment within the facility. The project aims to improve the quality of the treated effluent and improvements to wastewater treatment facility. The Wolfville wastewater treatment lagoon was constructed in 1977. The lagoon construction included a blower building and aeration system. The treatment system consists of two cells operated in series, each with a volume of approximately 20 410 m3. The wastewater treatment system is currently at or near capacity and therefore long term growth will require additional lagoon volume. The proposed lagoon expansion itself (future phase) will allow for future growth within the Town of Wolfville, and the adjacent community of Grand Pre. The proposed project is to upgrade the existing equipment within the treatment facility. The town will then monitor the facility performance for three years minimum and then design the next phase of the upgrade as required based on increased flows and the effluent discharge objectives. The first phase will enable the town to treat effluent better but not necessarily increase the total flows. The current average daily flow is just over 4,000 m3/day and the facility design capacity is 4,500 m3/day. The project will include the installation of ultraviolet (UV) effluent treatment to replace the antiquated chlorination system currently in place. |
