Town twinning in times of solidarity

The Town twinning in times of solidarity event will take place in Merești in the end of August 2023. and will provide an opportunity for seven localities and entities(Comuna Merești, Tokod, Magyaralmás, Csemadok Cata, Körösszakál, Jot s Jol a Szatmari Kistersegben Egyesulet, Udruga za njegovanje obicaja Madara Kórógy) from four countries (Romania, Hungary, Croatia, Slovakia) to exchange experiences and ideas on different aspects of the European Union. During the activity days, participants will have the opportunity to better understand the reasons, steps for its establishment, past and current challenges(such as the Covid-19 epidemic, the effects of the war in Ukraine, discrimination against women, etc.) and the scenarios for its future development. During the program days, participants will discover the diversity of European culture through a number of program elements, such as a folk parade and singing of folk songs, a folkdance demonstration, a gastronomic program (cooking competition) and an exhibition of local products and works of art. Through these elements, the localities show the cultural uniqueness of their area and raise awareness of the importance of preserving these values in order to maintain Europe's multiculturalism for the long term. The representatives of the localities will develop opportunities for cooperation in the fields of culture, tourism, agriculture and other areas, as this will allow their settlements to develop together. The positive impact of the project on young people(over the age of 18) is not negligible either, as a youth worker teaches them about solidarity and volunteering, while at the same time will introduce them to the EU's European Solidarity Corps program on international volunteering and local solidarity initiatives. In this way, young people will become motivated to volunteer in order to solve certain problems in their own community, and to take part in international volunteering programs that ensure their personal and social development
