The Trade and Transport Facilitation in Southeast Europe Project, is part of a regional program, aiming at modernizing, and strengthening the customs administrations, and border control agencies in the area, to reduce non-tariff costs on trade, and transport, and, to reduce smuggling, and corruption at border crossings. The components include: 1) assistance to monitor the customs administration through institutional reforms, and to streamline operations at two border posts on a pilot basis. Training for inter-agency capacity will be provided through technical assistance, complementing on-going activities by the European Union; 2) trade facilitation development to improve cooperation between public, and private parties. Equipment will be provided to support a virtual forum, and information technology, and, technical assistance will be provided to trade, and international participants, through the Chamber of Commerce, and Industry; 3) provision of hardware, and software, and assistance to improve information systems, through regional experience-sharing programs, and inter-agency cooperation; 4) civil works, and equipment, to expand the Siret border crossing, and, to modernize the Constanta customs station, respectively; and, 5) provision of services to support both regional, and national project implementation, such as auditing, financial management, and training.
