Traffic project in Huainan (PRC) that aims to sustainably improve the traffic situation in the city and thus reduce environmental pollution and improve the quality of life of the population. The innovative approach of the project is a pilot project and should, if possible, be transferred to other cities in China. A EUR 15 million subsidized loan is being used to finance measures aimed at better traffic control using traffic lights and other control systems. The latest technologies are being used (including the use of GPS data) to record traffic flows and to direct traffic based on this. Traffic light and traffic control is thus more efficient and automated, the capacity of individual traffic junctions is increased, more cars can be kept in the traffic flow more quickly and local bottlenecks are minimized. In the further course of the project, traffic lanes for buses and a parking guidance system are to be integrated. The project will noticeably improve the traffic situation in the city of Huainan. Once completed, the system introduced will cover almost all of the city's traffic. The technology-based control facilitates traffic flow and congestion is largely prevented. The integration of public transport will provide additional relief for road traffic. The improved traffic flow will ultimately also lead to a reduction in climate-damaging emissions from road traffic and to improved air quality. Accordingly, the project not only supports efforts to combat climate change, but also reduces health risks for the urban population and overall increases the quality of life in the city.
