Description

Description

The Federal Highway Administration's traffic noise model (TNM), is a regulatory tool for conducting noise studies on Type I and II projects. Volpe will support FHWA’s development of TNM 3.0 and future versions, including the graphical user interface (GUI), database, and acoustics. This support involves providing research and guidance on database requirements for the core acoustics, design intents for various components of the GUI, and model acoustic improvements. Those improvements include the integration of the roadway construction noise model (RCNM) into TNM 3.1 and other improvements informed by research tasks related to roadway noise source heights (tire, engine, exhaust splits) and reference energy mean emission levels (REMEL) for different pavements and vehicle types.
