Traffic Signal Renewal & Transit Priority System

• The project consists of the implementation of an Advanced Transportation Management System (ATMS) and a transit priority system in Greater Sudbury, allowing for more efficient movement of transit vehicles, principally along the City’s future bus rapid transit corridors. The project is a critical element in the successful implementation of the City of Greater Sudbury’s overall transit plan. • The scope of the project consists of implementing an ATMS through installation of a fibre-optic based communications network at 72 intersections, while 125 intersections will see the replacement of signalling cabinets, controllers and traffic signal priority field hardware. The project also includes the installation of signal priority hardware on 59 vehicles in the City’s transit fleet. • The project will result in improved quality of the public transit system in Sudbury, Ontario because service will become more reliable for transit users.
