Trail Exchange

The project is for transit exchange design and roadway improvements to expand and refurbish the transit exchange in Trail, BC, part of the West Kootenay Transit System. Improvements include six concrete bus pads that can accommodate standard capacity buses, three BC Transit bus shelters and up to nine benches, utility works including electrical power shelter lighting, sidewalk widening and reconstruction, street resurfacing and line and crosswalk painting and related ancillary infrastructure (e.g., landscaping, irrigation), installation of up to six bicycle racks, and an operator washroom facility. The 2016 Greater Trail Transit service review and the Downtown Trail Transit Exchange Study (2021) identified the need for a new and expanded downtown transit exchange to improve the customer experience and support future increased transit service levels. This will increase the transit exchange capacity by two buses and includes the flexibility of independent arrival and departure maneuverability.
