Description

Description

The train control system project is intended to replace the current fixed-block train control system with a system that uses “Communication Based Train Control” (CBTC) technology throughout the Montréal Metro Blue line, including the line’s extension to prevent obsolescence and potential related issues. The project involves a combination of hardware and software that enables trains to travel safely along metro tracks and effectively meet operating needs. The CBTC system includes equipment on the ground, a ground/train data transmission system and equipment on board trains. The project also includes changes to 28 Azur trains (MPM10) that will be used on the Blue line and extension. The replacement of the train control system will first take place on the existing section of the Blue line (12 stations), including the Snowdon station tail track; the De Castelnau connection, which includes a test track; and the Youville workshop, which includes workshop tracks. It will then be installed on the Blue line extension (5 stations) and at the future garage at the Anjou station. The project will improve the quality of public transit with cutting-edge technology that will ensure the network remains viable for the coming decades, improve service regularity, reduce service disruptions, allow long-distance diagnostics and increase passenger comfort through preventive braking.
