On both sides of the border there is a growing demand for people with 'digital skills'. 'Train4SmartServices' is responding to this and wants to develop a cross-border trainee program for the sustainable deployment of ICT professionals for services in various top sectors such as additive manufacturing, precision agriculture, health and the ICT sector itself. In this program the participants are smartly educated through a continuous integration of 'working' and 'learning'. On the one hand candidates are recruited to be employed as trainees and on the other hand companies and organizations are recruited where the trainees can be placed. The total process has a duration of 18 months in which 'learning together' and 'working together' is divided into four blocks with a basic, company, specialization and internship module. In 'learning together' the focus is on core competencies and specializations, while in 'working together' all attention goes to work experience on the growth and expert level. Soft skills, self-professionalization and project management skills are being worked on across the blocks. 75 trainees take part in the program. The trainee, the business mentor and the supervisor of the educational authority work closely together: the development of an online tool with, among other things, a chat facility ensures continuous communication. Furthermore, better insight is gained into the cross-border labor market with regard to smart services because the shortages in competences and the career opportunities for IT professionals in all sectors are mapped out. This involves close collaboration with the border information points, employment offices, chambers of commerce, Holland Expat Center and scientific programs such as ITEM.
