Description

Description

The growing level of youth unemployment is posing fundamental challenges to many African countries. Access to high-quality, practice-oriented training and further education is considered to be a key to solving this continental problem. If the employability of young people is increased, essential basic conditions are created for reducing poverty, promoting political stability, sustainable development and social participation. The lack of educational opportunities and the resulting lack of professional and personal prospects are also a reason for many young people to leave their home countries. Career-oriented education therefore also makes an important contribution to combating the structural causes of flight in the countries of origin. While training and further education systems are organized differently in the member states of the African Union, there are a number of common continental challenges. Sharing national experiences and generating role models that can also be used in other countries can therefore best be supported by a regional approach. Against this background, the African Union and Germany launched the Skills Initiative for Africa, which aims to improve the prospects of young women and men by promoting vocational training and further education. The development cooperation programme objective is to improve the prospects of young people in Africa through improved employment and income opportunities. To achieve this overall objective of the initiative, the FC module will set up a financing facility from which funds will be invested in the promotion of innovative, regionally relevant training and further education projects in pilot countries. The FC project will help to strengthen the quality and innovation in practice-oriented training and further education through the implementation of sustainable, regionally relevant skills development initiatives. (FC module objective). The implementation partner of the facility is AUDA-NEPAD, the development agency of the African Union.
