Description

Description

Objectives: The project has as objective to build a legal support framework for Roma women and children in Gothenburg, Sweden, the Trajosko Drom Legal Support (TDLS). The legal support framework will consist in assisting and empowering the local Roma community concerning issues relating to education and legal aspects that arise in connection to educational attainment (e.g. relations between school, social services and parents). Activities: The project takes it onset in an already established collaboration between the social sustainability platform (SSP) at the Department of Law, Gothenburg University, (applicant) and a local NGO for Roma Women named Trajosko Drom (partner). This project's main activity will be the the involvement of Trajosko Drom in a law clinic. But also training of professionals and legal research will be part of the project activities. Type and number of persons benefiting from the project: The collaboration between the Department of Law and Trajosko Drom is a key project in order to provide legal knowledge, held by students as well as the faculty staff, to the partner organisation, which in turn is reaching out to a large number of persons within local Roma communities in Gothenburg, fighting against discrimination, empowering Roma youth, women and children, and supporting capacity-building of civil society active at the local level. Expected results and deliverables: - Building a sustainable legal support structure at Trajosko Drom. - Building an equal and a long term collaboration between project partners. - Assisting and empowering the local Roma community concerning issues relating to education and educational attainment. - Creating long term competence regarding questions related to the enforcement of the right to education, with focus on children of the Roma minority. - Being part of the implementation of the EU Framework for National Roma Integration Strategies, including fighting antigypsyism and various forms of discrimination.
