In March 2006, Turkish oil and gas company Zorlu Petrogas Petrol, part of industrial conglomerate Zorlu Holding, won 30-year tender for gas distribution in the Trakya region. Zorlu Group paid the Government a license fee of US$1.9 million (YTL 2.5 million) for the project. Newly-established Trakya Bolgesi Dogalgas Dagatim would operate in the northwestern Trakya region and would distribute natural gas in Thracian Turkey in the cities of Tekirdag, Muratli, Edirne, Kirklareli, Kavakli, Babaeski, Luleburgaz, Evrensekiz, Buyukkaristiran, Misinli, Ulas, Cerkezkoy, Kapakli, Kizilpinar, Karaagac, Velimese and Velikoy. To carry out the distribution, the company set up Trakya Natural Gas Distribution, which had begun constructing the infrastructure necessary for such distribution in 2007 and would be supplying natural gas to residential and industrial subscribers once existing pipelines have been turned over to it.
