Trans-Saharan Highway

The Trans-Saharan Highway is a major trans-African highway corridor connecting Algiers to Lagos, Nigeria, spanning nearly 10,000 kilometers across six countries: Algeria, Tunisia, Mali, Niger, Chad, and Nigeria. It facilitates the movement of goods, raw materials, and agricultural products, reducing logistics costs and stimulating trade, especially benefiting landlocked countries in the Sahel region. Algeria's 2,400-kilometer section is fully finished, contributing to an overall completion rate exceeding 90%. The project is supported by multilateral cooperation under the Trans-Saharan Highway Liaison Committee (CLRT) and backed by organizations such as the African Union, African Development Bank, and Islamic Development Bank.
