Description

Description

Core problem The unique, protected biodiversity in the Burkinabe part of the WAP complex (Parks W, Arly and Pendjari) is threatened by high pressure on the natural resources of land (for agriculture), water (as watering ground for livestock), flora (illegal logging, grazing land) and fauna (poaching and fishing) as well as the steadily deteriorating security situation. Only a functioning protected area management can ensure the long-term preservation of biodiversity. However, the park administrations are chronically underfunded and, due to a lack of sufficient sources of funding, are unable to respond appropriately to current challenges. Module objective The FSOA enables the efficient management and safeguarding of the continued existence of the protected areas of the part of the cross-border WAP national park complex located in Burkina Faso through regular, long-term funding. Key outputs - The financial situation of the Burkinabe protected areas of the WAP complex has improved. - The conflict prevention and conflict resolution conditions in the protected areas have improved. - The infrastructure conditions for efficient protected area management have improved. - The personnel conditions for efficient protected area management have improved. Target group Those affected by the project are the park administrations and their employees as well as the population living near the protected areas. Contribution to the national implementation of Agenda 2030 The module contributes to achieving the 15th Sustainable Development Goal (protect, restore and promote the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss).
