Description

Description

Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF), accredited by FIAPF in 2011, keeps its front top position as the most important cinematographic event in Romania and one of the most spectacular cultural events in the region, with uninterrupted editions since 2002, happening in full physical format even in the two years of the pandemic, 2020 and 2021. The Festival has an average audience of 100,000 people, and gathers each year more than 1,000 industry guests from Romania and all over Europe. TIFF programmes a majority of European productions, and puts in the spotlight non-national films, especially from the region. For the past decade, with its EducaTIFF programme, TIFF has a regular film education programme, with children's films and dedicated workshops, including a film workshop for teenagers. Film education is the best instrument to develop a sustainable audience for European and arthouse films in the long term. TIFF continues to programme a majority of European films (75%) as well as European non-national ones (more than 50%). Each year, the festival programme consists of approximately 180 films. Apart from the Official Competition, the FIPRESCI Competition, as well as traditional, recurring sections, there are two countries in focus for each edition: Spain and Serbia in 2021, Israel and Poland in 2022. The organizers are committed to maintain high standards in terms of programming and diversity of films and to continuously attract new audiences, with key international figures from the film industry invited to attend and share their knowledge, acclaimed filmmakers presenting their films or up-and-coming directors. The focuses for 2021, 2022 and beyond, are on growing sustainable audiences to European and European non-national films, helping the Romanian and regional film industry to recover, as they were severely hit by the pandemic, serving as a stepping stone to develop and grow in a sustainable way, valuing local, regional and national assets.
