Description
Description | The project consists of deploying transit-related technology upgrades, procurement of new buses to replace and expand the existing fossil-fuel bus fleet with zero-emission buses, a feasibility study to determine retrofit requirements for renewable (solar) power generation, charging and distribution at the existing bus depot and improvements to public transit passenger amenities. The project scope includes: o procurement of 8 zero-emission buses; and, 6 gas buses; o procurement and installation of 8 charging stations and solar power generation retrofits; o technology upgrades such as installation of new fareboxes and traffic signal prioritization at 40 intersections; o improvements to passenger amenities such as shelters, solar lighting, benches, refuse and recycling bins; and o public transit system re-branding via decals for new buses, new map/route boards and signage at shelters. The project will improve the capacity, quality, safety and accessibility of the public transit system and will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by providing increased access to clean energy transportation and by generating clean energy in St. Thomas, Ontario. |
