Transitway (Busway) Pavement Resurfacing

Design and Construction: This funding would support repaving of the Transitway running way at locations where the current surface is uneven because of wear, to improve ride quality for customers and bus operators, and to reduce maintenance costs. Additional benefits of maintaining the road surface in good condition include improved bus ridership experience, longer service life of the pavement structure, less wear and tear on buses, and reduction of traffic-induced vibrations experienced in adjacent buildings. The project may also support other related works if/where possible, which may include but not necessarily be limited to connections between pedestrian/cycling locations and transit system locations. An example may be supporting 40-foot diesel bus acquisition in relation to routes in the proximity of the resurfaced locations to aid pedestrian and cycling traffic connectivity to the bus network. The expanded project activities are intended to further the City’s ability to advance safer community active transportation / transit priorities by leveraging the remaining program funding allocation as much as possible. This is consistent with Council’s strategic direction.
