Description
Description | TRANS-national TUNnel operational CBRN risks mitigation (TRANSTUN) is a public-private initiative which addresses a concrete and specific CBRN risk related to European Critical Infrastructures – the risk of chemical events (connected or not to explosions and fires) in cross-border tunnels of the European Union. More specifically, TRANSTUN engages private operators and end-users from France, Italy and Spain in an effort to define, produce and test standardized operational guidelines for effective response to chemical events affecting cross-border tunnels in the EU. It not only provides a platform to discuss and agree on minimum common standards (for processes and equipment) but will also provide a live testing opportunity engaging two crucial EU trans-border tunnels: the Frejus tunnel (the largest cross-border land tunnel in the EU) and the Mont Blanc tunnel. TRANSTUN will engage in project activities the member States and private operators which are called to intervene on the major EU cross-border tunnels, but goes beyond the consortium structure by setting up and facilitating a network of security managers of tunnel operators in the EU, in an effort of sharing of best practices and standardization of minimum processes and equipment standards. Through its direct engagement of over twenty end-users and private sector actors (including operators of Frejus and Mont Blanc tunnels), TRANSTUN will pave the way to a new coordinated modality of work for the security of tunnels in the EU. |
