Description
Description | The Seventh Transport Project for South Africa will assist in financing a part of the 1960-1965 Development Program of the South African Railway (SAR). The SAR was created in 1909 and is responsible for the railways, harbors, and airways of South Africa. The Seventh Transport Project will focus on expanding and modernizing the railway system in order to increase its capacity to meet traffic demands, improve operating efficiency, and decrease costs. Its components are: 1) procurement of electric and diesel locomotives; 2) purchase of freight car wheels; and 3) procurement of electrification equipment and workshop machinery. These new additions will allow the SAR to increase its capacity in order to relieve the growing pressure on the transportation system and promote the economic development of South Africa. |
