Description | The Transport Project aims at assisting the Ethiopian transport sector in the areas of greatest need. Specifically the project will: (i) follow-up on the IDA-financed Phase I port project (FY86), to eliminate congestion by expanding facilities at Port Assab; (ii) improve and modernize the road transport industry - both privately and publicly owned, through rehabilitation of selected trucks, replacement of aged private sector owned vehicles, replacement of part of the Ethiopian Freight Transport Corporation's exisiting fleet, and establishment of vehicle repair facilities; (iii) assist the freight forwarding agency in order to increase efficiency and reduce transit time of the critically important flow of export/import traffic; and (iv) assist Customs in modernizing and improving their operations. |
