Description
Description | This project consists of upgrades to approximately 43.42 kilometres of local roads across Prince Edward Island (PEI). The scope of work will include new construction of approximately 18.53 km and 24.89 km of rehabilitation. For the new construction, work will be completed on the existing road infrastructure and will include placing select borrrow, placing granular material and placing asphalt. For the rehabilitation, work will be completed on the existing road infrastructure and work will include asphalt resurfacing. The project aims to improve the structural strength and ride quality of these roads and will extend the life of the assets by 15-20 years. The improvements to these roads in rural areas of PEI are vital to sustaining the Islands continued population growth. Many of these roads have seen increased residential and commercial traffic over the years and have not had any significant changes in respect to their design and function. Improvements to these roadways will benefit all islanders and industry. Roadways to farms, fishing harbours, processing plants, tourist destinations and rural communities will be improved. Investing and improving roadways in and around rural areas will contribute to the success of those communities. Among the priorities of our Department we have been working hard in developing a plan to address the infrastructure needs for rural Islanders while working with federal partners. All work will be completed in the existing provincial right of way. |
