Description | The Tres Rios Environmental Restoration Project evolved from an early proposal for advanced nitrogen removal of effluent discharged from the 91st Avenue WTP in Phoenix into a large-scale habitat restoration, environmental education, flood control and public recreation project. Construction included moving 1.6 million cubic yards of earth to create three large wetland areas and two deep-water retention basins. The project also included the installation of 18,000 linear feet of underground water lines and 600 linear feet of 84-inch fiberglass effluent lines. In addition to self-performed activities, the project team managed and coordinated the installation of more than 300,000 aquatic and terrestrial plants to create the wetlands habitat. The project was recognized through several awards, including the USACE Chief of Engineers Award of Excellence. |
