Description | Tribhuvan Rajpath is the first road linking Kathmandu to the outside world, connecting Nepal with India. Construction began in 1952 and took five years to complete. The road runs from Thankot at the western edge of Kathmandu Valley to Bhainse, joining existing roads to Bhimphedi, Hetauda, and Amlekhganj. It was named after King Tribhuvan who initiated the project. The road was officially handed over to Nepal by India in 1957, with India having spent INR 32.5 million on the project. The road was initially gravel and later blacktopped, becoming Nepal's busiest highway and a vital economic infrastructure. |
