Description

Description

The Trombay TPS expansion was a 250 MW unit being added to the existing Trombay Thermal Power Station located at Trombay in Maharashtra. The existing Trombay Thermal Power Station had 7 units and this extension was the unit 8 of the project. The project was being developed by Tata Power Company Limited (TPCL). TPCL is promoted by Tata Sons Limited and has a presence in all areas of the power sector: generation, transmission and distribution of power in various regions in India. The power generated by the Trombay TPS extension would be supplied by TPCL in the area of Mumbai. 150 MW was sold under PPAs to the distribution business of Tata Power and Bombay Electric Supply & Transport Undertaking (BEST) in Mumbai, and 100 MW was sold on a merchant basis through Tata Power Trading. The project cost was estimated at USD 247.5 million and achieved financial closure in September 2006. The project was expected to be commissioned by August 2008 but was finally commissioned in March 2009.
