Description
Description | The Commission of Fine Arts has voted to move ahead with President Trump's plan to build a 250-foot 'victory arch' near the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The arch, designed by Harrison Design, resembles Paris' Arc de Triomphe but is nearly 100 feet taller. It will be located on Columbia Island, across the Potomac River from the Lincoln Memorial, and will tower over Arlington National Cemetery. The arch is intended to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 2026 and features symbolic elements such as eagles and inscriptions like 'One Nation Under God' and 'With Liberty and Justice for All.' The project has faced opposition and legal challenges, with concerns about its size and impact on sightlines. |
