Description

Description

The Project will construct a new two-storey building that will provide space for community, recreation, youth and culture for the members of the Tsawwassen First Nation and the surrounding communities. The scope of work for the Project includes the construction of an approximately 12,000 square feet of floor space; an elevator; and landscaping. The first floor will include a commercial grade kitchen, staff offices, an art room, a computer lab, a library, washrooms, and a gallery. The second floor will include a multi-purpose room, a music and dance room, a teen activity room, a weight room, washrooms with showers, and storage spaces. The facility will be open for use for everyone including those with any barriers or developmental and physical disabilities and will create a sense of unity while reflecting Tsawwassen First Nation and Coast Salish cultural perspectives. The building will be inclusive to all genders, races and ethnicities and will be a centre of excellence in the region. The Tsawwassen First Nation have confirmed that the Project will meet or exceed the highest energy efficiency standards for buildings in British Columbia; will meet or exceed the requirement of the highest published accessibility standard, code, or by-laws; is community oriented, non-commercial in nature and open for public use; will benefit Indigenous peoples not living on reserve, and will advance reconciliation with Indigenous communities.
