The project involves the construction and operation of a 50 MW Tsetsii Wind Farm in Tsogttsetsii soum, Umnugobi aimag, 540 km south of the capital Ulaanbatar. The project company - Clean Energy Asia LLC - is 51 per cent owned by Newcom, a local conglomerate, and 49 per cent by SB Energy, which is a subsidiary of Japanese telecommunications conglomerate Softbank. This greenfield project will contribute to reducing Mongolia's carbon intensity as well as meeting its increasing power demand. It will also assist Mongolia in diversifying its coal-dependent power sector. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) funded the project. The former has committed a senior secured loan of $25 million to the Company on a limited-recourse project finance basis. The latter has provided the remaining $65 million debt funding. The Mongolian government is the offtaker under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA).
