Description | The government of India plans to revive the Tulbul project on the Wular Lake in Jammu and Kashmir. The project involves constructing a 439-ft-long and 40-ft-wide barrage with a storage capacity of 0.30 million-acre-feet below the Wular Lake near Ningli in north Kashmir's Bandipora district to stabilize the water level of the Jhelum River. The project was initially conceived in 1981 but was shelved in 1987 due to objections from Pakistan. Following the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty (IWT) with Pakistan, the government no longer requires Pakistan's consent and will restart the project with a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to be prepared soon. |
