Tummidihetti Barrage under Pranahita-Chevella Lift Irrigation Project

The project involves the construction of the Tummidihetti barrage on the Pranahita River, a tributary of the Godavari, as part of the Pranahita-Chevella Lift Irrigation project. The project aims to draw water from the Pranahita River and carry it to the Yellampalli barrage through a canal system. Due to geological challenges, a new alignment linking Tummidihetti and Sundilla barrages is proposed to avoid coal zones, potentially simplifying construction and reducing environmental clearances. A detailed project report (DPR) is being prepared by a private agency, RV Associates, with a three-month deadline for submission. After DPR finalization, talks with the Maharashtra government and approval from the Central Water Commission will be sought.
