Tunisia - Study on the Development of the Health Services Export Strategy

The study on the development of health services exports has been designed with the aim of arriving at a strategic orientation for health services exports. This study should lead to the development of a strategy and an action plan to promote Tunisia as an exporter of health services and a site for investment in these fields. It focuses on a strategic analysis of the four major demands for Tunisia to be developed and explored: (i) Libyan rents and local exports; (ii) a niche to be developed: European tourists and expatriates; (iii) an emerging demand: cosmetic surgery; (iv) emerging markets to be explored. The Bank's support will make it possible to promote exports of health services, which is one of the Government's current top economic priorities. It will fund a study to (i) diagnose the current situation as regards the export of health services; (ii) assess Tunisia's position on the international health services market; (iii) organise the promotion of Tunisia as an investment location for this sector; (iv) assess the sector's development prospects up to 2016; and (v) formulate the sector's development strategy and the corresponding action plan. This support will provide the Tunisian government with a range of tools and analyses to help it implement its strategy and, in the early stages of the study, begin to promote Tunisia as a location for investors in this sector.
