Description

Description

The Water Sector Investment Project Phase 2 (PISEAU II) is the second phase of a sector investment project that uses a programme approach to determine annual investments. PISEAU II is involved in the last segments of mobilization of water resources and access to drinking water and is an innovative project that promotes efficient IWRM through the establishment of a National Information System for Water Resources (SINEAU) and participatory management by the GDAs. The project will help improve their living conditions through intensification of irrigated agriculture and better supply of drinking water; it will also create conditions for adaptation to climate change. Implementation of the project will begin in 2009 and cover a five-year period. It will also cover the entire country, using a programme approach based on investment eligibility criteria. It is intended to be a tool for managing water scarcity by anchoring beneficiary participation in the management of resources and infrastructures and promoting appropriate pricing systems. The total project cost is EUR 122.01 million (TD 215.98 million), or EUR101.75 million, net of all taxes.
