Turkey Nuclear-Powered Submarine Project (NÜKDEN)

Turkey has begun planning design, feasibility, and future production work for a nuclear-powered submarine as part of its efforts to increase deterrence in nearby seas and pursue a global power vision. The project involves developing submarines with long range and low detectability, using nuclear propulsion technology, and aims to build a nationally designed nuclear-powered submarine under the ongoing National Submarine Project (MİLDEN) and NÜKDEN. The project includes cooperation with friendly and allied countries, particularly NATO members, and requires overcoming technological and financial challenges such as naval reactor design, nuclear safety, crew training, and maintenance infrastructure.
