Description
Description | Tver Cellular Communications (TCC) was formed in 1994. The company created its NMT 450 network in October 1994, and started its operations in 1995. The network was installed by Ericcson with a total investment of US$2.5 million. The TCC company was formed in Tver by the local Elektrosvyaz communication enterprise (later known as Center Telecom) and the Moscow Cellular Communications company (40%). The new station was expected to support 10,000 users. The cellular communication network covered major part of territory of the Tver region including serve Tver, Torzhok, Rzhev and Bezhetsk and was an important chain in the series of similar services to be created between St Petersburg and Moscow. The project later joined the efforts to link all of Russia under an NMT 450 cellular network, which was implemented by Inter-Regional Transit Telecom company (MMT) set up by Rostelekom , MGTS), and a number of other telecom enterprises. In 2004, CenterTelecom, base communications operators for Russia's Central Federal District, has sold its 40% stake in NMT-450 operator Tver Cellular Communications to an unnamed buyer for an unnamed price. In October 2004, “Sky Link,” announced the deployment of its network in Tver using equipment, software and services from Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU). ZAO Tver Cellular Communications will operate the new network and provide high-quality, mobile voice and high-speed data services at speeds of up to 153 kilobits per second, enabling Sky Link to expand its coverage to include Tver, an important region located between Moscow and St. Petersburg.
