The Twilight Surf Hotel in Myrtle Beach has been declared a nuisance under South Carolina law due to repeated drug activity and ongoing breaches of the peace. The 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office filed the nuisance action in collaboration with the Myrtle Beach Police Department to stop and correct dangerous and illegal activity at the property. The hotel has experienced very little management or oversight for several years, leading to increased drug activity and disturbances, creating serious safety concerns for the community. From May 18 to Nov. 17, the Myrtle Beach Police Department responded to 284 calls for service at the hotel, and the Myrtle Beach Fire Department responded to 22 more calls. The nuisance declaration initiates a legal process to bring the property back into compliance with state law and improve safety and quality of life in Myrtle Beach.
