The planned twinning program between the Municipalities of Vacone (located in Italy) and Buzet (located in Croatia) stems from the need for two modestly sized realities to extend their awareness of living realities within a larger organization, such as the European Union of today. Daily life within these small centres is dictated by the demands of everyday life, which rarely come to terms with what is the reality beyond their borders, and rarely come into contact, given their nature, with the different cultures that populate the larger organization of which they are both part. The aim of this twinning project is to promote exchanges between people from different countries, reinforcing the understanding of distant customs and cultures, offering the people involved, as well as the whole community, the opportunity to broaden their horizons and develop a sense of European belonging and identity.The primary source from which our two municipalities draw inspiration for the creation of the project is undoubtedly the EU Citizenship Report 2020, specifically the section in which reference is made to the prospect of greater freedom of movement and the simplification of daily life. Our initiative aims to strengthen and, in some cases, even create, through the work of the two public administrations, the experience of legal certainty for EU citizens travelling, studying or working in another Member State. The exchange should normalize the international experience in another European country for the citizens involved, making them more aware of each other's mutual acceptance and of the concrete possibilities outside their home country. Freedom of movement, which enables every European citizen to live, work or study in another Member State, is the right that is sought after in the development of the initiative.
