Tyresö Gymnasium is committed to strengthening the school's overall work with democracy and human rights, as well as highlighting the value of European cooperation for peace, welfare and sustainability for both students and staff. We are an accredited Erasmus+ school for our vocational students to undertake international internships as part of their studies. We aim to further build on this foundation to ensure that the European perspective permeates the entire school. As part of the project “Tyresö Gymnasium for Europe,” we will develop a clear plan outlining activities aimed at strengthening knowledge about the EU and Europe. This will be achieved through school-wide activities, enhanced teaching, participation in conferences and teacher training, study trips, application to the European Parliament's Ambassador School Programme, and extracurricular activities related to the EU. We will also develop a specialized course on European Studies comprising 100 hours, which will primarily be mandatory for students in academic programmes. Vocational students will have the option to select the course as part of their individual study choices. Over the course of three years, we will establish long-term sustainable structures by developing activities and organizational frameworks that integrate the European dimension into regular teaching and the school year. We recognize that democracy in Sweden, Europe, and the world is facing significant challenges. In times like these, the school must do everything it can to nurture young individuals who believe in fundamental democratic values and can interact, live, and work with people from diverse backgrounds. We must embrace our educational mission and strengthen students’ understanding of democracy both in Sweden and Europe, while fostering a deeper awareness of the foundations of European peace and cooperation. TYG for Europe will make a real impact! We are committed to shaping responsible citizens for a thriving democracy.
