The project aimed to provide fresh water to the UAE by harvesting potable water from the iceberg after a 10-month journey of about 12,000 km. The project included a patent-pending metal belt system to keep the iceberg intact during the tow. A pilot project was announced for 2019 with a cost estimate of $60-80 million, and the full project was estimated at $100-150 million. However, as of 2025, the project has stalled with no operational progress or official cancellation. |
