Description | The UAE Iceberg Project was an ambitious plan launched in 2017 by National Advisor Bureau Limited to tow a massive Antarctic iceberg approximately 2 kilometers long and 500 meters wide to the coast of Fujairah, UAE. The project aimed to provide fresh water to the region by harvesting the iceberg's water and also sought to induce localized weather changes to increase rainfall. The iceberg was to be towed over a 12,000-kilometer journey and stationed 3 kilometers off Fujairah's coast for water extraction. A patent-pending metal belt system was developed to keep the iceberg intact during the tow. A pilot project was announced for 2019, but as of 2025, no operational progress or trial has been confirmed, and the project remains stalled with no updates. |
