Description | IFC is seeking to invest in a privately placed unsecured bond (the “Bond”) of up to US$90 million to be issued by Municipality of Ulaanbaatar (“MUB”), the subnational entity of the capital city of Mongolia. The investment entails (i) an own account IFC investment of up to US$65 million and (ii) an investment by IFC-Canada Blended Climate Finance Program (“BCFP”) of up to US$25 million. The proceeds of the financing will be used for the procurement by the MUB of the supply and construction for the 50MW/200MWh Battery Energy Storage System (“BESS”) project. The BESS is designed to store electricity during off-peak times and supply it during peak times (the “Project”), reducing recurrent blackouts during peak demand in the winters and provide grid stabilization. |
