Uganda - Road Maintenance and Upgrading Project

The project was conceived within the framework of a Sector Investment Programme (SIP). The programme focuses on institutional capacity building in the road sector, road maintenance and rehabilitation, network improvement and development in order to reduce general cost of transportation to the economy. In putting together the RSDP for which the project is a part, extensive consultations were made with the stakeholder and donor community. The project components are Road Maintenance and Upgrading of Gayaza-Kalagi Road in the Central Region of Uganda. The road maintenance aspect of the project focuses on periodic maintenance of prioritized classified unpaved roads and paved roads and the proposed road upgrading is to densify the network of paved roads as well as complementing the proposed IDA-financed Kampala Northern By-pass project in the region. The duration of implementation of physical works is 30 months from July 2001 to December 2003.
