Uganda - Second Health Services Rehabilitation Project

The Second Health Services Rehabilitation Project, approved on 21 October 1993, is the fifth Bank Group financed involvement in the social sector in Uganda. Within the overall framework of the health policy, the sector objective was to improve the delivery of health care in Uganda, with specific emphasis on remote rural districts which had previously been under-served. The project encompasses the rehabilitation of three districts hospitals (DH) at Bwera, Adjumani and Kaabong. Each hospital will consist of complete diagnostic, clinical and nursing department (with a maximum of 100 beds), and provided with full sets of standard DH furniture, equipment, a full complement of qualified staff; while the staff of the various PHC facilities of the district will be re-trained in order to strengthen the referral system between the two levels.
