Description
Description | The project aims at rehabilitating the electricity distribution systems in Kampala, Jinja, Tororo and Masindi, thereby reducing power losses in these districts which account for about 30% of the energy sold. The project will reduce the energy losses in the urban distribution systems and improve the quality of electricity supply in the major towns. It is expected that by reducing power losses, about 15 MW (approx. 9% of the existing generating capacity) would be made available to UEB. The project will contribute to improving the efficiency of the electricity distribution network and the quality of electricity supply and will increase the number of subscribers to the Uganda Electricity Board (UEB). This would provide a new 130 km 33 kV distribution line between Apac and Masindi towns, 37 km new 11kV lines in Kampala and rehabilitate the 11kV and low voltage distribution networks in Kampala, Jinja and Tororo districts. Simulataneously, 9,900 new service lines will also be procured with the project. The project will be carried out over a period of four (4) years, starting in 1996 with a cost estimated at UA 21.49 million. |
