The project involves the expansion of mobile phone network coverage in rural areas of Uganda through the installation of 506 new telecom towers. The goal of this is to significantly improve mobile phone network coverage in underserved regions, bridging the digital divide and advancing the country's goal of achieving 95% coverage nationwide. The total financing amount to $40 million. This funding comprises of $16 million from the European Investment Bank, $12 million from the Development Bank of Austria (OeEB), and $12 million from the Belgian Investment Company for Developing Countries (BIO). Financial closure for the project was reached on March 6, 2024.
