Description

The project envisages the construction and operation of the first phase (approximately 60 MW) solar PV farm in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. The whole complex will have an output of 300 - 310 MW and will be built in four phases. Project is being implemented by Uhuru Energy (Private) Ltd together with an undisclosed Chinese investor. Project is initiated as an IPP (Independent Power Producer) on a license scheme. As such, it will benefit from a 20-year PPA with Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission Company. It was reported on 31 October that an undisclosed Chinese investor provided $51 million for the project and thus accounting for 85% of the total investment. The remaining 15% ($9 million) will be funded by Uhuru Energy. No debt financing has been reported.
