The UK's National Energy System Operator (Neso) has prioritized 83.2GW of battery projects and 69.9GW of offshore wind projects for connection to electricity networks by 2030 and 2035, clearing a 700GW backlog. This Gate-2 overhaul aims to address delays where companies had been waiting up to 15 years for grid connection under the previous first-come, first-served system. Projects were selected based on readiness for construction, including planning permission and land rights, and their contribution to the UK's 2030 clean energy target. However, there is scepticism about potential delays, costs, and a two-tier market favoring big players, which could jeopardize net-zero goals.
