Description

The Umm Qasr Container Terminal Berth 8-10-11 BROT project reached financial closure in August 2010 when the berth 8 started operation. In February 2010, Gulftainer was awarded by the government of Iraq a a concession contract to rehabilitate and operate Berth 8 in the Port Umm Qasr, and, to complete construction of and develop and operate Berths 10 & 11 'The Iraq Container Terminal' (ICT). The sponsor was Gulftainer (100%) from UAE. The length of the concession contract and the capacity of the terminals were not publicly available. Based on publicly available information, total investment commitment in facilities was evaluated at US$500 million. The berth 10 and 11 were expected to be operational in 2011. The Iraqi Container Terminal with a capacity of 600,000 TEUs was expected to commence operations in early 2012.
