Description
Description | The Arab Energy Organisation (AEO) has called for greater investment in underground gas storage across Arab states, highlighting the strategic benefits for energy security. The study identifies depleted oil and gas fields, abundant resources, existing infrastructure near production areas, and favorable geological formations as optimal conditions for developing strategic storage facilities. Currently, only three underground gas storage facilities operate in the Arab region (UAE and Saudi Arabia), with most countries relying on above-ground storage. The study recommends priority actions to spur investment including geological development, regulatory strengthening, investment incentives, global partnerships, and regional knowledge sharing. |
