This link is a key step in Greece's plan for a wider expansion of the electrical grid in the Eastern Mediterranean, which will eventually include Cyprus and Israel. The project aims to bolster energy diversification and enable Crete to replace fossil fuel-based power generation with renewables. The undersea cables have been laid at a depth of 1,200 meters and support a capacity of 1,000 megawatts using high-voltage direct current transmission systems. |
