UNDP - Improving energy security and promoting renewable energy in Lebanon

The aim of the project is to improve energy security in Lebanon and promote the transition to renewable energy supplies. The unreliability and high costs of the existing energy supply as well as the dependence on imported fuels make new, sustainable energy solutions necessary. Key components of the project are (i) an investment program for the holistic promotion of renewable energies (RE) and energy efficiency (RE) in public buildings, (ii) promotion of grid-connected RE projects and (iii) capacity building measures to improve the sectoral framework conditions. From a strategic perspective, in addition to the immediate improvement of security of supply through the introduction of new technologies (e.g. at building level), an expansion of the RE generation potential (hydropower) and targeted CB measures, the project contributes to the transition of the Lebanese energy sector to renewable energies.
