The Lebanon Host Communities Support Programme (LHSP) is a project that is being implemented in the context of multiple crises, increased vulnerabilities and increased potential for conflict. It is helping to mitigate the effects of the Syrian refugee crisis, the economic and financial crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine, particularly on the global food situation. The aim is to strengthen the resilience of local structures and the population in host communities in Lebanon by expanding basic infrastructure and services and implementing peace-building measures. The target group includes the local population in the host communities as well as the Syrian and Palestinian refugees living there. UNDP is directly commissioned to implement the programme. UNDP is working closely with the Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA) as part of the project. The main focus is on investment measures that are identified using a participatory process to identify and address potential for conflict in the partner communities. In addition, socio-economic measures (including the promotion of MSMEs) and peace-building activities (such as violence-free schools and fake news) are being implemented.
